FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warriors fell victim to another early-period onslaught on Saturday.
A day after a pair of quick goals in the third period helped Indiana Tech skate to a victory, the hosts again scored in bunches, this time to start the second period in a 6-0 win over Waldorf in NAIA hockey.
The visiting Warriors (3-15-2, 8 points) skated nearly even with Indiana Tech (15-1, 30- points) in the first period, but the host Warriors broke the scoreless tie with 4 minutes, 50 seconds left before the intermission.
Still in a close game down just 1-0, Waldorf saw that change quickly in the second period as Indiana Tech scored a trio of goals in the opening 1:57 of the period, breaking the game open.
The host Warriors added two more goals in the second period, icing the win, as Waldorf was outshot 39-12 on the day.
Waldorf goal Ryall Purdy finished with 33 saves on the day for the Warriors, who now return home to the Albert Lea Ice Arena to host a three-game series against Concordia-Ann Arbor, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The puck drops Friday at 7:30 p.m., at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
