COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Even though the season got cut short, two members of UC Archery team made the most of their opportunities as freshman Madison Cox and sophomore Brooke Miller were named Collegiate All-Around Archers of the Year, announced by USA Archery Friday. Cox was named the Bowhunter Female All-Around Archer of the Year, while Miller notched the Compound Female All-Around Archer of the Year honors.
“I’m so proud and happy for both Brooke and Madison, this award is an example of their hard work and commitment,” said Head Coach Kris Strebeck.
Cox earned the Bowhunter All-Around Archer of the Year honors after recording a gold and silver medal are the respective national championships. Cox began her freshman campaign by shooting a 408, including hitting 12 12-rings to capture the gold medal at the 3D National Championships. Cox added three more podium finishes at 3D nationals, including notching her second gold medal as part of the women’s bowhunter team.
“It means a lot to earn this award and to know that the hard work has finally paid off,” Cox said. “I would like to thank Coach Strebeck, Coach Kirby, and Courtnie for always pushing me and giving me the best advice. I also want to thank my Dad for traveling to every event and for always supporting me.”
The McKee, KY native followed that up with a runner-up finish at the USA Archery Indoor Championships. Cox carded a 589 on the first day of competition en route to finishing with an 1175 to earn her fifth trip to the podium at a national championships. Cox also found success at the conference level as she tallied four medals over the course of the two Mid-South Conference championships. Cox was also named the MSC Archer of the Week for the week of September 24.
Miller successfully defended her Compound All-Around Archer of the Year title after posting a silver and bronze medal and reaching the podium for the fifth time in her career. The sophomore shot a 426 with 18 12-rings to notch a runner-up finish at the 3D National Championships. Miller teamed with Hannah Moose and Amanda Newland to capture the gold in the women’s compound team division.
“It is such an honor to win this award two times in a row!” Miller said. “I would like to thank my teammates for their encouragement and pushing me to do my best.”
The Ewing, MO native followed her silver medal performance by tallying a bronze medal at the USA Archery Indoor Championships. Miller carded an 1164, including 84 10’s and 36 9’s to place third. In addition to her success at the national level, Miller recorded four medals as part of the MSC Championships.
“Thank you to my coaches and family for supporting me through archery at college and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish as a team next semester,” Miller said.
Cox and Miller were among the eight Patriots that qualified for the Collegiate Finals. The All-Around Archer of the Year is award to the highest cumulative placed from the 2019 3D National Championship and the 2020 Indoor Championships.
Cumberlands captured the 2019 3D National Championships and was leading the Mid-South Conference standings after the first two legs of the conference championships.
