MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – For the second year in a row, Brescia University men’s soccer have claimed the River States Conference Team of Character Award. The Bearcats are the only recipient of the award for 2020-21 after being the RSC Men’s Team of Character Award winners in 2019-20.
The RSC Team of Character award honors teams for their exemplary character and sportsmanship on the field, on campus and in the community. A deserving team demonstrates the NAIA’s core character values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership. The award is patterned after the national team of character presented by the NAIA.
The Brescia men’s soccer team performed over 100 hours of community service this past year. The Bearcats participated in two projects of note during 2020-21. The team was involved in the Owensboro Food Drive, which had team members unpack, deliver and load cars with food for the local community. This was part of a larger effort involving businesses and churches in the area to aid the community during the pandemic.
The Bearcats also volunteered to rebuild the Joe Ford Nature Trail. This involved clearing the park and laying down railings that serve as the border of the trail. The team laid down three-quarters of a mile of wood on both side of the trail.
On the field, the Bearcats had a winning season with a 9-8-1 overall record and a winning percentage of .528. Head coach Cameron Williams has led Brescia to the RSC Team of Character Award in both of his seasons thus far.
