MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – Asbury University’s Dr. Ken Pickerill has been named the 2020-21 River States Conference Faculty-Athletics Representative of the Year. The award coincides with his retirement as RSC Eligibility Chair after more than 20 years of service to the conference.
“Dr. Pickerill has been an incredible resource to the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which later became the River States Conference,” said Michael Schell, RSC Commissioner. “We wish him the best as he retires as RSC Eligibility Chair. It is only fitting that he was named RSC Faculty Athletic Representative of the Year for 2020-21.”
Dr. Pickerill is the chair of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation department at Asbury University. He is a professor of physical education, and he began as a faculty member at Asbury 30 years ago in 1991. He has served as Asbury’s FAR for many years.
He began serving in some capacity for conference eligibility in 2001. Initially, Dr. Pickerill was a committee of one regarding eligibility and all reviews concerning violations and exceptions to standard rules. He also served as interim commissioner for about six months around 2000.
The RSC Faculty-Athletics Representative of the Year award was established in 2016-17. Its purpose is to recognize one FAR within the conference each year for outstanding service and dedication to the role with an RSC and NAIA athletic department and campus.
The FAR is a member of the faculty who works with the athletic department to certify the eligibility of all student-athletes at that institution before they can represent the school in competition. The FAR cannot be a coach or an athletics administrator and is well versed in the rules and regulations of the NAIA.
The RSC thanks Dr. Pickerill for his many years of service to the conference, its members past and present and its student-athletes.
