LOUISVILLE – The Cardinals missed six of their last seven shots, but managed to escape and extend their winning streak over the Wildcats to six.

Carlik Jones made two free throws with five seconds left, and Louisville beat Kentucky, 62-59, on Saturday.

It wasn’t a good day offensively for either team. Louisville (6-1) did just enough to hold off Kentucky (1-6).

The Cardinals had 13 turnovers on the afternoon, including a few big mistakes in the closing minutes. Their largest lead of the afternoon of seven point (56-49) happened with just more than four minutes remaining, but a couple of big turnovers (traveling, out of bounds on the baseline) allowed the Wildcats to tie the game at 59-all inside the final minute.

Louisville bested Kentucky, 32-24, in points in the paint.

Jones led the way for the Cardinals with 20 points. David Johnson had 17 points, seven boards and four assists in the win.

Davion Mintz had 17 points for the Wildcats along with seven rebounds.
