AUSTIN, Texas – Capping off her four-year career at Cumberlands, Evelyn Moore earned Second Team Academic All-America status, as announced by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Monday, for her dedicated work as a student-athlete.
Moore elevated herself to the national recognition with her 3.95 GPA, focusing her studies in Biology prior to graduation this spring. She became the first in the women’s program history to be honored on the NAIA Academic All-America honor roll, previously one of two women to earn the All-District nod in 2019.
In the classroom, Moore was dedicated as she earned three Academic All-Conference honors, twice an NAIA-Daktronics Scholar Athlete, twice NAIA Academic All-District and now an Academic All-American.
In her lone appearance on the track during the indoor season, Moore ran a career best time in the 5,000 meters, clocking 19:04.50 across the finish line after 25 laps. She also competed at the Q Elite Half Marathon, earning an automatic qualification to the would-be NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship full marathon with a 1:26:43 finish.
Also a leader on the cross country course, Moore was often the first Patriot to cross the finish line, including a second place finish at the MSC Championships her senior season. Through her entire Cumberlands campaign, she qualified for the NAIA Cross Country Championships as a sophomore and as a senior, meanwhile running her career best time of 19:16.9 at the Louisville Classic in early October, 2019.
On the men’s side, her teammate Nicolas Grandperrin also became the first in the program’s history to claim the national academic honor, making it onto the first-team roll.
Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
