BOWLING GREEN – Mid-South Conference (MSC) Commissioner Eric Ward announced Wednesday that the conference will revise its football schedule for the upcoming 2020 season.

As recommended by the Mid-South Conference Football Oversight Committee and approved by the football athletic directors and head coaches, the conference schedule will officially begin on September 12 and conclude on November 14. The September 12 start date is in line with the NAIA fall sports update recommendation that was released last week.

“The Mid-South Conference football athletic directors and head coaches have vetted and approved, with the endorsement of the Council of Presidents, a revised 2020 conference football schedule,” Ward said. “With the lingering uncertainty regarding many of the details surrounding a return to play in the fall, our conference leadership felt it would be prudent to go ahead and develop a contingency plan for football, the sport with the largest student-athlete participation and the most procedural complexities from the start of preseason practice thru completion of the regular season schedule. Our schools will face a number of challenges this fall, and the revised football schedule will make some of those challenges easier for our members to address.”

Ward, along with the MSC Football Oversight Committee — comprised of two athletic directors from each of the three conference divisions — sought a plan that would most importantly consider the well-being of the student-athletes while also being mindful of the potential fiscal challenges of Mid-South Conference institutions in the wake of COVID-19.

All MSC Appalachian Division football programs will play an eight-game schedule with all of those programs only facing teams inside of their division, with two teams having the ability for limited travel non-conference opponents.

Union will play exclusively teams from the MSC Appalachian Division, which includes Bluefield College (Va.) Faulkner University (Ala.), Kentucky Christian University, Point University (Ga.), Reinhardt University (Ga.), and St. Andrews University (N.C.). Only six of the eight games will count toward the divisional standings

The Bulldogs’ revised schedule for 2020 is as follows (all times are to be determined):

• Sept. 12 – vs. Kentucky Christian
• Sept. 26 – vs. Faulkner*
• Oct. 3 – vs. Reinhardt*
• Oct. 10 – at Point*
• Oct. 24 – at St. Andrews*
• Oct. 31 – vs. Bluefield*
• Nov. 7 – at Kentucky Christian*
• Nov. 14 – at Bluefield

* – MSC Appalachian Division game.

At this time, a decision has not been made about the ability to host spectators at games for the upcoming season. Further details will be announced when decisions have been made.
