{"id":855,"date":"2019-03-17T13:08:58","date_gmt":"2019-03-17T18:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kentuckysports.net\/?p=855"},"modified":"2020-11-03T09:01:13","modified_gmt":"2020-11-03T14:01:13","slug":"cinderella-story-ends-in-naia-quarterfinals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kentuckysports.net\/?p=855","title":{"rendered":"Clarke&#8217;s Cinderella story ends in NAIA quarterfinals"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"13c398acb195b4bd84e993cb56669758\" data-index=\"6\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- Above Post Ad 2 -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:inline-block;width:638px;height:70px\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4024319323781499\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8631827568\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Clarke Athletics<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Jerry Hanson, Sports Information Director<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>BILLINGS, Mont.<\/strong> &#8211; Clarke University&#8217;s Cinderella story came to an end Saturday night at the NAIA Division I Women&#8217;s Basketball Championship in Billings, Mont., but not before Coach Courtney Boyd&#8217;s squad dealt losses to No. 1 and No. 4 seeds and pushed nine-time national champion and No. 3 seed Oklahoma City University to the wire in the tournament&#8217;s Quarterfinal Round.<\/p>\n<p>Clarke, making its first Division I national tournament appearance, ended its season at 23-12 after a 76-72 loss to the Stars.<\/p>\n<p>The two teams battled evenly the entire contest.\u00a0 Clarke led 16-15 after one quarter of play.\u00a0 Oklahoma City led\u00a0 28-27 at intermission.\u00a0 There were 13 lead changes over the first two quarters of play.<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma City opened the third quarter with a three-point field goal, but the Pride went on a 10-0 run, the final three points off a Morgan Pitz (SO\/Farley, Iowa) trey, to build a six-point leads. Clarke held onto a 47-45 lead heading into the final quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Clarke built its biggest lead of the fourth quarter, a five-point advantage with 4:33 to play, when Pitz and Ubl drained back to back triples.
